Dear Friends

In Andrew Boorde's 'Breviary of Health', 1577, we find the old saying, 'let every man please his wife in all matters', preceded with the Latin , 'ut homo non cantet cum cuculo'.
I get the impression this means something like 'so as not to sing the song of the cuckoo', i.e. not be cuckolded. Is this correct? Of course, the spelling of Latin in 1577 may have been quirky compared with what we see today. Your help greatly appreciated.

I am trying to decipher the latin - rather hear it clearly - from a Japanese film that deals with the persecution of Christians in an earlier time. I can hear clearly "angelus domini" and the rest is just a bit blurred and I "think" I hear "et semper" ...then a vowel alone like "e" or "u"...then I hear "desero" In trying to put this together I can only deduce a meaning. I thought it might mean "Angel of God I am abandoned forever" or. "Angel of God, I abandon myself forever to you" Can you help me with the meaning? and perhaps give me a full sentence in Latin that would be the possible sentence?

This is what I "think" I hear: angelus domini et semper ...desero

This is the youtube url to the piece in question. http://youtu.be/4FWeluvY2Ow

Please help me! My Latin is too sketchy and it is hard to hear the second line, the one in question. thank you so much!

I have tried to piece a translation of "safe hands" together by using various sites, but I really do not know if my Latin "Salvus pandi" is anywhere near correct. With "safe hands" I am trying to express the meaning associated with that phrase's use in, say, American football (he has safe hands, he will not fumble) or in more general use (This issue will be dealt with in the right way. It is in her safe hands). I am not sure whether the words or syntax used are correct. Help please.

Hey so, I have the Prayer that is my favourite as my Mum found it for me and I would love to have it in Latin as I want to write it on my wall. But as I only know a few prayers in Latin, not the language could someone help me with this? Obviously, I don't expect it to be perfect or exact and religious stuff can be pretty vague. Also, I know not everyone is a fan of religion so please don't give me a fake translation =/

Heart of Jesus
You felt sorry for the crowd.
Seeing them as sheep without a shepherd.
Have pity on me as I come to you
asking for your blessing,
And help me to become
all that you would have me be.
Stretch out your powerful yet gentle hand,
to hold me and keep me safe,
as you did for peter
when he began to sink.
Listen to me, as I comment to you
all my hopes and all my anxieties.
Bless all those I love,
most of all
those in trouble of any kind.
May I love you,
more and more each and every day.
Heart of Jesus,
reach unto all who call upon you,
have mercy on me and help me
heart of Jesus,
salvation of all who trust in you,
have mercy on me and help me.

I do believe it would fit best in it's imperative singular form as it's directed towards 1 person as her personal motto.
Once again many thanks for any help in this matter
just listing phrase again here "Imagine, believe and achive"

Can anybody help me with these translations? I need help ASAP!

Please, I would really appreciate it, thank you!

brevioribus, modo longioribus spatiis eos a porta trahebat. tandem progressus
duxit.

nec provocati a nobis castra Romana oppugnaverunt.”

magistrum deinde denudatum, manibus post tergum vinctis, Camillus pueris
tradidit ut Falerios reducerent virgasque, quibus proditorem in oppidum agerent,
eis dedit. fides Romana et iustitia imperatoris in foro et in curia laudabantur.

2.

Marcus Valerius, tribunus militum, in medium armatus processit. tum vero
certamen humanum numine interposito deorum factum est insigne; nam
conserente iam manum Gallo corvus repente in M. Valerii galea consedit. hoc
velut signum caelo demissum laetus accepit tribunus.

I'm obviously new here, so I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong area (but I saw a similar topic in this forum, so here goes).

I'm helping out a friend who's looking for a tattoo idea, and he settled on the oh-so-popular Psalm 22:4 "For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me."

Now, he wants it in Latin, of course. In my mind, as far as grammar, structure, syntax, and all those fun mechanics, you can't get much more correct than the Latin Vulgate itself. However, he had concerns about it, understandably, since it's permanently being affixed to his body - he was also concerned about any capitalization or punctuation.

This is what I found him:

"sed et si ambulavero in valle mortis non timebo malum quoniam tu mecum es virga tua et baculus tuus ipsa consolabuntur me"

He just wants to fill in the dots as far as capitalization and punctuation goes.

I appreciate the help, guys! Been a long time since I've dedicated time to studying Latin, so I'm rusty at best.

Vīlicus iratus magnam vocem servi temerarii in raeda nova audit.

For school, I had to translate this to English and got really befuddled in the process. I've just entered something along the lines of, 'The angry overseer hears the loud voice of the reckless servant in the new carriage.' I don't really understand how everything links.

Whether I'm close or completely off, would somebody mind explaining this to me as a beginner?

--- Ahh, and I apologise for not posting this in the correct section. I just noticed.
